World Vision Giveaway

The World Vision organization is a new one to me, but I'm SO glad I know about it now. They are a pretty amazing organization, doing pretty amazing things all over the world, and their gift catalog truly is a great place to head when seeking out a gift for someone that already has everything they could ever want/need.

But, let me back up a little. World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization that has been focusing on children since 1950. They work with children, their families, and their communities in close to 100 countries by breaking the cycle of poverty and injustice.

They have helped "earthquake and hurricane survivors, abandoned and exploited children, survivors of famine and civil war, refugees, and children and families in communities devastated by AIDS in Africa, Asia, and Latin America." They help where the need is greatest, which includes children right here in the United States.

"The excellence of World Vision’s work has earned the trust of more than 3 million donors, supporters, and volunteers; more than half a million child sponsors; thousands of churches; hundreds of corporations; and government agencies in the United States and around the world."

You can find so much information about World Vision on their main website and help in ways from small to large through their extensive gift catalog in print and online.

There are so many ways you can help those in need this holiday season and all year long- the donations through the World Vision gift catalog is just one way. You can make donations under $20 and all the way up to $500 (or more). Search by price range, category (animals, clean water, education, medical care, etc), or request that your money go to help those most in need.

And when you choose to have your donation to go to the areas in most desperate need.. you can also get a small gift for yourself. For a gift of $150 you'll receive three handmade Zakale wire and bead Christmas ornaments from Nairobi (meaning "reuse" Zakale crafts are made from recycled materials by a group of Kenyan artisans reclaiming their own lives from poverty).

A gift of $25 or more will provide you with a cute plush chick named Chuma. "Chuma will be a delightful memento for your loved one of the hope you’ve given in his or her name. At your request, the plush toy will arrive with a beautiful card explaining the impact of the donation." And another option, at a donation of $40 or more, is a beautiful turquoise Thai bracelet (made in a project that helps protect vulnerable girls from exploitation).

In order to help promote the World Vision organization and their gift catalog, I am able to offer one of my readers the opportunity to have their own turquoise Thai bracelet.

The winner will be randomly selected to each receive one beaded Thai bracelet. Giveaway ends Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at 11:59pm EST. Make one comment for each entry. The winner will be selected at random and have 48 hours to respond or another winner will be selected, etc. Please make sure your email address is in your comment or blogger profile. Open to U.S. addresses only.

  1. Thanks Laura for mentioning us and this post on Twitter. We love your give-away idea with the challenge to give a gift that helps those in need this holiday season. Let us know how the contest goes... we'd be interested in knowing which Gift Catalog gifts your readers who most likely give. Also- I'd love to chat with you more about blogging and our new Bloggers Network. Please email me if you are interested in this. Thanks again!
